Copyright Registration
An intellectual right that automatically vests to someone who creates an original work of authorship- like a literary work, song, movie or software is known as copyright. This intellect right safeguards the rights of authors over their creation, thereby protecting and rewarding creativity. These rights protect the expression of ideas rather than the ideas themselves.
WHAT CAN BE COPYRIGHTED?
- Painting or logo (under Artistic work)
- Novel, books or software (literary work)
- Play or script (dramatic work)
- Music notes (Music work)
- Movies, video (cinematography work)
BENEFITS OF COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION:
➲ Protection of the work
Owner or creator’s work gets legally protect through this right. It protects them from infringement and piracy.
➲ Make Presence in the market
The creation of the Owner or creator gets promoted amongst masses in a single go without the risk of being infringed.
➲ Owner’s Right
Owner’s gets right for dissemination, translation, reproduction and adaption of his work. He gets the right to assign or refuse to assign his work.

It is an intellectual property of the owner which becomes adds on in the assets of owner.

It helps in branding of your work and creates goodwill too.
PROCESS OF REGISTRATION
STEP 1: Create a user id and password after making registration on the portal.
STEP 2: Do the login after that click on copyright registration
STEP 3: Fill up the forms
- Fill up and Complete the form XIV, then press the save button
- Upload signature
- Fill up the statement of particulars and save it
- Complete the statement of further particulars, this form is applicable for literary/dramatic/musical and artistic works
STEP 4: Make the requisite payment for registration
STEP 5: Save the diary number generated after the submission of the form
(All the attachment will be uploaded in pdf/jpg/png format or literary/dramatic work to be uploaded in pdf format only not more than 5mb)
STEP 6: A hard copy of the Acknowledgement slip along with the copyright registration form and all the respective attachments shall be posted to ‘THE Copyright Division, Department For Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry’.
LIFESPAN OF COPYRIGHT AS PER COPYRIGHT ACT 1957:
➲ For Literary, Dramatics, Musical or Artistic work
Protection will remain for the lifetime of the author + 60 years beyond i.e 60 years after his death
➲ For Posthumous, Anonymous & Pseudonymous works, cinematography Film, Sound recording
Protection will remain for 60 years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the work has been first published.
➲ For broadcasting work
Protection will remain for 25 years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the work has been first published

➲ Person’s whose photograph appears on the work, NOC from him/her.
➲ A specific Power of Attorney in original duly signed by the applicant and accepted by the attorney, If the application is being filed through an attorney

➲ Demand draft of Rs. (as applicable) per work
➲ Certificate of No objections from various copyright holders or a copy of the agreement (deed of assignment).
➲ Publisher shall provide NOC if work published and publisher is different from the applicant.
➲ A specific Power of Attorney in original duly signed by the applicant and accepted by the attorney if the application id being filed through the attorney.

➲ Demand draft of Rs. (as applicable) per work
➲ If work published and publisher is different from the applicant, No objection certificate from the publisher
➲ If the applicant is other than author NOC from Author.
