MSME Single Point Registration Scheme— What It Is and How to Get Registered
Many small business owners ask what the MSME scheme benefit really means beyond the Udyam certificate on their wall. The honest answer is that most of the real value is in a lesser-known layer called the MSME Single Point Registration Scheme. If you are a micro or small enterprise that really wants a chance at government tenders, this is the registration that truly opens that door.
What the Scheme Covers
The Single Point Registration Scheme, implemented by the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), is a kind of one-window registration that enables micro and small enterprises to avail themselves of benefits of government procurement. Under this MSME scheme detail, there are two broad routes:
- Registration without monitoring—valid for 2 years, based on document verification only
- Registration with monitoring for five years, including a technical inspection of the unit by NSIC experts, which has a greater impact on tender evaluation
So, NSIC takes that as the base eligibility document. Hence, an active Udyam Registration is mandatory before applying for either.
Applicable Law and Framework
The scheme is based on the Public Procurement Policy for Micro and Small Enterprises Order, 2012, framed under the MSMED Act, 2006, and supported by Rule 145(iii) of the General Financial Rules, 2017, which enables government departments and PSUs to give preference to registered MSEs in their purchases. The whole registration process is done by NSIC, which works under the Ministry of MSME.
Who Should Apply?
Any micro- or small enterprise producing goods or providing services wishing to submit a tender for government tenders should submit an application. This is especially true for units catering to central and state government departments, PSUs, and other public procurement agencies where a certain percentage of purchases is legally reserved for MSEs.
Documents Required for MSME Single Point Registration Scheme
The documents would typically include the Udyam Registration certificate, PAN & GST registration, incorporation or partnership documents, a list of machinery & manufacturing capacity, audited financial statements for the last few years, bank account details & a list of items or services for which registration is sought.
The Process for the MSME Single Point Registration Scheme
Applications are filled online through the NSIC dedicated portal. After uploading the documents and fee payment, NSIC verifies the application, and for the monitoring category, an inspection of the unit is scheduled physically. The registration certificate is issued after clearance, indicating the items or services covered and the period of validity.
Benefits to Know About the MSME Single Point Registration Scheme
Registered units are also exempted from the earnest money deposit and tender document fees, price preference in certain tenders, and easier access to the Government e-Marketplace and the NSIC’s own raw material assistance and bill discounting schemes. For a growing MSE, this often means tender opportunities that are simply not available without the registration.
Getting the documentation, item classification, and inspection readiness right the first time is important, as errors here usually mean delays in tender eligibility. Corpzo provides end-to-end Udyam and NSIC Single Point Registration to MSEs so they can focus on winning tenders and not chasing paperwork.
